Hey friend —
Welcome to One Louder Magazine.
I’m Troy, and I listen to a lot of music. Probably an unreasonable amount.
Most new albums drop on Fridays. From Friday through Thursday, I work my way through as many new releases as humanly possible — across a wide range of genres — and share my quick-hit, no-nonsense reviews.
This isn’t a hype machine. It’s not industry-backed. It’s not sponsored.
It’s just one guy, a pair of ears, and an honest opinion.
Music is subjective. Completely. What hits me might miss you entirely — and that’s part of the fun. These reviews are just my two cents (adjusted for inflation). Take them as conversation starters, not gospel.
What I Tend to Love
My wheelhouse lives somewhere in the loud, riff-driven universe:
- Rock ‘n’ roll
- Classic rock
- Stoner & psychedelic rock
- Prog rock / prog metal
- Post-rock / post-metal
That said, I’ll spin just about anything at least once.
What I Don’t Usually Reach For
Country, Top 40/pop, and death/black metal don’t typically sit at the top of my queue — but never say never. A great album is a great album.
A Quick Disclaimer
I might love something you can’t stand.
You might love something I tear apart.
That’s normal.
Also: my opinions are about the music — not the personal lives, politics, or personalities of the people making it. Good people make bad albums. Questionable people make great ones. I’m here to talk about what comes out of the speakers.
Why This Blog Exists
Because there’s too much music and not enough time.
If you’re looking for:
- A quick read before deciding what to stream
- A weekly roundup of new releases
- A nudge toward something you might’ve missed
- Or someone else obsessing over riffs so you don’t have to
You’re in the right place.
Turn it up one louder.
— Troy
